Wash your hands in the water

Wash your hands in the water,

But do not swim in the water, child.

The dam has broken.

The tsunami has washed through

the towns uphill.

We know

because we see the water rising.

I know you want to play in the high tide,

but the wave is coming with a crash.

I know you want to dunk and splash.

But we must hold our maker’s hand

So that we may not drown

like our brothers and sisters closer to

the great source.

Wash your hands in the water,

But do not swim in the water, child.
